HEMALI BOORADA

Principle Dancer/Instructor

Hemali Boorada is an alumnus of the Shivamanohari School of Performing Art, based in Canada. She has been the lead dancer in the Ensemble for over 8 years now. Hemali was introduced to Kuchipudi dance after Gajja Puja by Natya Ratna Sri Pasumarthy Venkateswara Sarma. She continues to learn under her Guru and her mother Smt.Gomathi Boorada, for over 16 years. Hemali has been further groomed in the nuances in Kuchipudi under Sri Vedantam Venkat Naga Chalapathirao, along with Swathi Gudepuneedi-Atluri and Sri Hari Rama Murthy in New Jersey. She has had the opportunity to train under renowned artists such as Sri.Parshwanadth Upadhye, Surendranadh Muramalla, Bijina Balakrishnan, Smt.Padmavani Mosalikanti, as well seek academic guidance under Dr. Yashoda Thakore. She has also had brief training under Sri Sreelakshmy Govardhanan and Master Menu G.

Hemali completed her Rangapravesham in 2017 and she continues to perform, learn and teach with Shivamanohari School of Performing Arts. She regularly travels both nationally and internationally presenting the Kuchipudi repertoire in places such as Canada, the United States, Europe, India and even Indonesia - where she participated in a cultural exchange with the University of Gadjah Madah - both teaching and performing Kuchipudi. She has performed in over 200 venues over her career and has recently completed her performance as the lead role for the production Shivamanohari: A Quest For Eternal Love. This was a Kuchipudi-Javanese Dance Production which premiered in August of 2021, back by popular demand in October of 2022. She is a regular performer for the Indian Consulate General, Indonesian Consulate General, Great India Festival, International Paradance festival, SkirtsAFire festival and the Kaleido Festival.

Hemali is embarking on her choreographic journey having recently presented original choreographies and compositions for the Vata Vriksha Festival in April of 2021, with original scored music by Sriram and Ganesh Bala.

Hemali holds a BA in Political Science, and she is currently pursuing her Masters in Fine Arts – Kuchipudi - alongside her post-graduate degree in Law. She continues to teach at the academy, with over 7 years of experience under her belt.
